Overview
Accurate cardiac assessment with ultrasound
We provide high-quality, non-invasive echocardiography services designed to deliver accurate and timely cardiac assessments. Our experienced sonographers and interpreting physicians utilize advanced ultrasound technology to evaluate cardiac structure, function, blood flow, and hemodynamics with exceptional precision.
Our services include Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE), Stress Echocardiography, and specialized cardiac imaging studies tailored to the needs of hospitals, physician practices, outpatient facilities, and healthcare organizations.
Our approach
Proactive care begins with accurate diagnosis
We are committed to clinical excellence, rapid report turnaround times, and patient-centered care. By combining state-of-the-art imaging technology with evidence-based protocols, we help healthcare providers diagnose, monitor, and manage cardiovascular conditions with confidence and accuracy.

- 25+ Years of Experience
Dr. Humberto C. Machado is a board-certified, third-generation cardiologist who has served patients throughout South Florida for more than two decades.
Cardiology is part of his family legacy, but what distinguishes Dr. Machado is the personal connection he develops with his patients. He takes the time to listen, understand their concerns, explain their cardiovascular health clearly, and involve them in decisions about their care.
His approach combines preventive cardiology, advanced diagnostic technology, evidence-based medicine, and personalized treatment. His goal is not only to treat heart disease, but also to identify risks early, prevent complications, and help every patient achieve better long-term heart health.
Our studies
Echocardiography services we offer
Your cardiologist will recommend the study that best answers your clinical question.
Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE)
The standard echocardiogram. Ultrasound images taken through the chest wall show your heart's size, structure, pumping function, valves and blood flow.
Stress Echocardiography
Images of the heart are recorded at rest and again right after stress, from exercise or a medication, to show how the heart performs when it works harder and to help detect blocked coronary arteries.
Specialized Cardiac Imaging
Studies tailored to the needs of hospitals, physician practices, outpatient facilities and healthcare organizations.
Who it is for
What an echocardiogram can show
Echocardiography is commonly ordered to look into symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, leg swelling or a heart murmur, and to monitor known heart conditions. It gives your physician a detailed, real-time look at:
- The size and structure of the heart's chambers and walls
- How well the heart pumps, including its ejection fraction
- The heart valves, including narrowing (stenosis) or leaking (regurgitation)
- Blood flow through the heart and overall hemodynamics
- Fluid around the heart or other structural problems
- Changes over time or after treatment
What to expect
Your visit, step by step
Timing depends on the study ordered. A resting echocardiogram is generally shorter than a stress echocardiogram, and our team will give you an estimate when you schedule.
01 Check-in
Our team reviews your history and the study your physician ordered. For a resting echo, you will change into a gown from the waist up.
02 Getting ready
A few small electrodes are placed on your chest to record your heart rhythm, and you lie on your left side on the exam table.
03 Imaging
The sonographer applies warm gel and moves a transducer over your chest to capture moving images of your heart. You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or change position.
04 Stress images (if ordered)
For a stress echocardiogram, images are taken at rest and again right after exercise on a treadmill, or after a medication that makes the heart work harder. Your heart rhythm and blood pressure are monitored throughout.
Preparation
How to get ready
Preparation depends on the study. Our team will give you instructions when you schedule. In general:
- A resting echocardiogram usually needs no special preparation
- For a stress echocardiogram, you may be asked to avoid eating for a few hours beforehand and to avoid caffeine
- Wear comfortable clothes, and walking shoes if you will exercise
- Bring your medication list and your insurance card
Some heart medicines may need to be held before a stress test. Follow the instructions our office gives you, and do not change any medicine on your own.
Safety
Is it safe?
Echocardiography uses sound waves, not radiation, and is painless. You may feel light pressure from the transducer on your chest.
Stress echocardiography is also considered safe, and our team monitors your heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure throughout. Tell us right away if you feel chest discomfort, dizziness or unusual shortness of breath during the test.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about echocardiography at Machado Cardiology.
No. You may feel light pressure from the transducer, and the gel may feel cool, but the test is painless.
A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) looks at the heart at rest. A stress echocardiogram adds images before and after exercise or a stress medication, to see how the heart responds when it has to work harder.
It depends on the study ordered. A resting echocardiogram is generally shorter than a stress echocardiogram. Our team will give you an estimate when you schedule.
A resting echo usually needs little preparation. For a stress echo you may be asked to avoid eating or caffeine for a period beforehand and to wear walking shoes. Our office will give you specific instructions.
Many patients are referred by their primary care physician or another specialist, and some insurance plans require authorization. Call our office at (305) 529-9901 and our team will help.
Yes. Our echocardiography services are tailored to hospitals, physician practices, outpatient facilities and healthcare organizations. Call our office at (305) 529-9901 to discuss your needs.
We are committed to rapid report turnaround. Your cardiologist reviews the study, and our team will tell you how and when the results will be shared with you and your referring doctor.
